Riverfront Mural
Project Preview

12:00pm

The Tap Restaurant,
100 Washington Street

Meet artist Alan Pearsall, as TEAM Haverhill Community Public Arts Committee, in partnership with LEAP Haverhill!, reveal color drawings by Pearsall for this ongoing community public art project. These images, which will be transferred to full-size mural panels, depict Haverhill’s late 19th century shoe industry and reflect the unique heritage and culture of the downtown Historic Washington Street Shoe District. These first murals are sponsored by LEAP Haverhill! and the Haverhill Cultural Council.

Last year, the LEAP Haverhill! community arts project involved children, teens and adults in the creation of the ten mural panels displayed along Columbus Park. For this year’s project, TEAM Haverhill is looking for sponsors for additional mural panels that will replace boarded-up windows of historic buildings downtown. The objective of this project is to get the entire community involved in creating public art through private partnerships and corporate sponsors. We welcome your participation!

Tony Vacca'a
World Rhythms

12:30-2:00pm

Columbus Park, between Washington and Wingate Streets.

This solo performance and “hands-on” educational concert is back in downtown Haverhill for the second year. Truly a great experience for all ages. Tony Vacca’s solo performances are a nearly non-stop athletic spectacle of percussion music and spoken word. He incorporates percussion instruments from a world of traditions that includes African, Caribbean, Asian, and Middle-Eastern influences, and then adds some of his “Zen Rant” rhythm poetry. Using giant West African balafons, twenty tuned gongs, djembe, djun-djun, talking drums and an outrageous percussion drumset, Tony creates a unique blend of rhythm, word, and drum that has come to be the signature of his work..
